When The Master Became The Grasshopper!

Updated: Apr 6

Yesterday was a day of activities, chaos, laughter, and lessons for Mama and Mini Jackson.

The mini and I ventured out of the house at 10 am and we didn’t stop until, well, I don't quite remember when.

But among the chaos, a profound lesson awaited me—the unexpected magic of a child's perspective.

Our day kicked off with a debut appearance at the Strong Mamas class at 10:30 am (in my jazzy new trainers, thanks Mam!).

Now, I must clarify; this was not just any workout. It involved rehab for my knees post-injury, and the mini joined in enthusiastically, turning into a pint-sized cheerleader, ensuring I didn't miss a beat #SlaveDriver.

She even threw in some "You're doing great, Mum!" “Keep Going” Miss Motivator style adlibs. Gonna get her a neon bumbag for the next session. 😂

I loved it to be honest, she was a wee cracker! Talk about being a #StrongProudMama!

Post-exercise feeling energised, we sped home for a lightning-fast shower and outfit change, catapulting ourselves to Meadowhall for a lunch date with pals and the Barbie experience. Pink extravaganza? Check!

The day wrapped up with a kids birthday party at a play centre, leaving me, and my knees, absolutely bloody knackered—I won't lie!

But the pièce de résistance came when, in our state of exhaustion, my mini, with all her unfiltered honesty, shared her highlights with her dad, and I was met with a delightful surprise.

The best part of her day wasn't the glitzy Barbie adventure or the lively kids' party; it was, in fact, our morning gym session!

In her own words:

"The best part of my whole day was going to the gym with Mummy. We worked really hard, and I really enjoyed it!

I made three new friends—the lady next to us, the lady at the end with baby Arthur (he's 9 months old), and the teacher. She was really nice, helped Mummy with her knees, and was super strong and pretty!"

I was made up to be honest!

How lovely!?! Her face was a picture ♥️.

As I reflect on this very unexpected but beautiful twist in our day, I can't help but marvel at the wisdom encapsulated in my mini's simple joy.

The root of it:

  • Quality Time

  • Connection

  • People

  • Kindness

  • Mindfulness

It's not about the grandeur of the setting or the money spent; rather, it's about being in the present moment cherishing the time spent together and creating memories that linger in our hearts.

The true richness lies in the quality of time shared and the genuine connections forged.

It’s in the simplicity of the laughter, shared stories, and companionship, that we find the real treasure! The stuff that has no real name, but makes moments priceless.

Amidst the laughter, grunts, endless glute exercises (🥴), and newfound friendships at the gym, my mini became the master and I the grasshopper.

I was given an honest unwitting lesson in mindfulness and genuine connection from my own mini. Reinforcing the idea that sometimes, the best lessons come from the unlikeliest places.

But also from the best places! A room full of strong Mamas, strong women giving my mini a fantastic set of role models. To those women, though we've just met, a heartfelt thank you!

So here's to carrying on in 2024 as we started, with mindfulness including gratitude, unexpected moments of connection, and the undeniable charm of learning from the unrefined lens of a child.

Thus inspiring next months theme of the month!

As we approach the end of December, I'm gearing up for a mindful start!

How about you?

Please share your thoughts! 💭

Thank you to:

The Mini
